WELY Radio Show Creates Ripple Effect with Waters Voice

Ely, MN August 23, 2006 - WELY end of the road radio welcomes George J. Strong to its broadcasting family. Listeners are encouraged to tune in at 6:10pm on Thursday nights, to hear an eclectic cross-selection of Native musicians. The hour-long program is called Waters Voice.

Broadcaster George Strong is new to the industry but not to the genre. "I am especially interested in providing a place where local musicians can showcase their vocal and musical talents," shares George. "As a Bois Forte Band member, I have spent years involved in pow wows, as a singer and dancer, emcee and organizer where I gained an appreciation for Native music. This radio show is a natural extension for me, a way to share what I love with more people."

WELY General Manager, Bill Roloff thinks Waters Voice is a positive addition to their line up for a couple of reasons. "When considering this show, I was looking for four facets to come together. I wanted it to be entertaining, culturally relevant, respectful and educational for both the Native and non-native listener. I think we have achieved that."

The show broadcasts to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area and the communities of Northern Minnesota's Arrowhead region. It has a nice mix of younger and older listeners, which is growing and changing all the time.

Those with Internet connection or MP3 players can listen to the station live using WELY's Internet Stream. This allows people out of the area, and those away on vacation, to listen to their favorite programs 24 hours a day from anywhere in the world.

Waters Voice can be found at 94.5 on the FM dial, WELY is home to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area and the communities of Northern Minnesota's Arrowhead region. In addition to music and entertainment provides news, information and community events. Check it out today.
